Outspoken Carl Froch gives his honest answer
Carl Froch has enjoyed plenty of back and forth with the father of the current WBC and lineal heavyweight champion and has now given his views on whether Tyson Fury will actually fight Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.
This delayed fight date is a result of Fury getting a bad cut in sparring just two weeks before the initial date of February 17. In the wake of that, plenty of rumours circulated and bad words were exchanged between camps as each doubted what the other was saying.
In the meantime, Froch started to question Fury’s CV and that drew the ire of his father, John, who offered to fight Froch at Wembley in front of 80, 000 fans.
While that won’t happen, there are big hopes that the first undisputed fight in 25 years still will. There is extra jeopardy with this new date as Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority chief Turki Alalshikh has revealed that there will be a forfeit to the tune of $10 million to either of the boxers who might want to pull out.
Speaking to talkSport, Froch was asked if he hits this fight will now go ahead.
“I think we have to now because if we don’t the Saudis will get upset and Tyson Fury’s credibility will go through the floor. We’ve got 12-15 fights, I think it has to happen now.”
