Canelo Alvarez updates fans on his next ‘history-making’ fight
Since announcing that he would be fighting an American on May 4th, Canelo Alvarez has enjoyed teasing his fans, giving hints as to who may be in the opposing corner, but keeping his lips sealed.
However, two months’ out from the celebrated date, it appears that an announcement is imminent, and the man he is facing is one that appeared to be ruled out of contention.
Canelo recently announced his split from PBC, who had signed him up for a three fight deal to face Jermell Charlo, Jermall Charlo and then supposedly Errol Spence Jr or Terence Crawford.
However, after a disappointingly uneventful affair in his first fight, the undisputed super-middleweight champion has made the decision to leave the promotional outfit and change his plans, possibly explaining the inaccurate hint that he would be taking on an American.
Instead, Canelo is now expected to link up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom once again, who have lined up a fight with his undefeated countryman, Jaime Munguia, for what will be an historic first all-Mexican four-belt undisputed title bout, according to ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez.

“#CaneloMunguia at the point closest to agreement For the first time, two Mexicans competing in four championships in what will surely be the most expensive fight in the history of tricolor boxing and that will create a sensational atmosphere.”
Many fans remain disappointed that Canelo is not facing David Benavidez, yet Eddie Hearn has not ruled out a clash with ‘The Mexican Monster’ in September, although he is also reportedly targeting a bout with Edgar Berlanga for what would be Canelo’s second fight of the year.
Canelo-Munguia is set to be announced in the coming days, for what will likely be a DAZN PPV event.
