Canelo Alvarez next fight announcement imminent
After a period of quiet, it is thought that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will be making a ‘major’ announcement about his next opponent on Tuesday February 13.
Canelo traditionally fights twice a year – namely on traditional Mexican holidays in May and September. His last outing was a one-sided 12-round points win over Jermell Charlo, who was reticent throughout and came in for plenty of criticism from his peers afterward.
In the meantime, clamour has grown around a fight between Alvarez and David Benavidez who was the first man to knock out Demetrius Andrade in his last fight and is renowned as a relentless fighter who throws more punches than most.
Now a message posted in X by EverythingBoxing suggests we shall soon find out.
“Canelo Alvarez will make an important announcement about his career on Tuesday at 12 pm local time (6 pm UK time) on Azteca.
Could we see Canelo’s next fight officially announced?”
Canelo is the current undisputed super middleweight champion. He has lost just twice in his long career – early on to Floyd Mayweather, and more recently to the light heavyweight king Dimiri Bivol, who will be taking on fellow light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev in an undisputed clash in Saudi Arabia in June. Should the Russian come through that, there is nothing Canleo would like more than a chance to avenge his loss.
