Canelo Alvarez lists all the boxers that would make up his perfect fighter
Canelo Alvarez has been speaking about all of the attributes he thinks would make up the perfect boxer and has even included some of his own skills in his ultimate fantasy fighter.
Canelo is next out this weekend against fellow Mexican Jamie Munguia. He will be defending all four of his undisputed world super-middleweight belts having had a number of fights that have not always pleased fans in the last few years. These include Brit John Ryder, who he flailed to stop and only managed a points win, an easy one-sided pints rout over Jerrell Charlo, and a loss to Dimitri Bivol up at light heavyweight.
He remains one of the most popular men in the sport however and is a multi-weight champion and pound-for-pound talent with plenty of skills in many different departments.
Ahead of his bout with Munguia, who recently managed to knock out John Ryder himself and is the first Mexican Canelo has fought since he faced Julio César Chávez back in 2017, he spoke about what he thought would make up the ultimate fighter with PPV.com.
“Right-hand – Tommy Hearns, I think it is one of the best right-hands that I have ever seen.
Left-hand – Julio César Chávez [Sr.].
Power – [Roberto] Durán or [George] Foreman.
Footwork – Footwork, I think [Pernell] Whitaker.
Chin – I think me.
Boxing IQ – I think [Floyd] Mayweather, [he had] a very good IQ.”
Canelo might well need to show that solid chin this weekend against Munguia, a solid come-forward fighter who likes a tear-up.
