Campbell Hatton parts way with his uncle
British super-lightweight prospect and son of the legendary Ricky Hatton, Campbell, has announced that he has parted ways with his uncle, Matthew, after suffering the first loss of his career.
Matthew Hatton, who challenged Canelo Alvarez for the super-welterweight world title in 2011, has trained his nephew for all 15 of ‘The Hurricane’s’ professional bouts to date, but the pair came unstuck against James Flint last weekend in a challenge for the Central Area 140lb title, losing via unanimous-decision.
Still, the performance from the young prospect was a spirited one, showing enough gut, grit and determination to silence naysayers who had him labelled as a ‘silver spoon’ fighter, regardless of the fact that he did not get the win.
On social media, Campbell announced that he has chosen to replace Matthew as his trainer, but thanked his uncle for his guidance over the last seven years.
Spent most days over the last 7 years alongside this man & loved every second. Uncle, trainer & best mate rolled into one. Time for a change for the next part of the journey but will always be grateful for everything he’s done for me. It’s been a belter 🥊 x @MagicMattHattonpic.twitter.com/Bxrpi9BYfM

Meanwhile, Matthew responded to the tweet by adding that he also believes it is the right time to move on, as the 23-year-old seeks a new voice in his corner, after showing little improvements in recent fights.
What a journey the last 7 years
I’ve enjoyed it immensely

Already there have been talks of avenging his defeat to Flint, but only time will tell if the Central Area belt remains as Campbell’s goal.
