Campbell Hatton set for move down to London
British super-lightweight contender Campbell Hatton (14-1, 5KO) has announced his new trainer as he seeks to bounce back from a first career defeat by opting for a change in his corner.
‘Hurricane’ Hatton – son of former world champion Ricky – had been trained by his uncle Matthew, who challenged Canelo for the WBC super-welterweight title back in 2011.
Campbell Hatton suffered a loss for the first time when he stepped up in opposition and faced James Flint in a bid for the Central Area 140lb title last March.
The 23-year-old showed shades of the heart that made his father Ricky a fan-favourite, but ultimately lacked the skill and power to dethrone Flint, showing little improvement in recent fights and hence making the difficult decision to dismiss his uncle during the aftermath.
One month on from that defeat and Campbell Hatton has now taken to social media to confirm that he will begin working at the Ben Davison Performance Centre in Essex, where he will be training alongside the likes of Anthony Joshua and Leigh Wood , although the ‘Hurricane’ will be trained by Barry Smith rather than Davison himself.

Barry Smith has been Ben Davison’s assistant trainer over the last couple of years but has taken the lead with fighters in the past, working with the likes of Leon Williams, Phillip Bowes and Anthony Upton.
The Londoner also currently trains British heavyweight prospect Jeamie Tshikeva (also known as Jeamie TKV), who had been sparring ‘AJ’ during the build-up to the two-time world champion’s fights with both Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.
Hatton has openly revealed his willingness for a rematch with Jimmy Flint, but he may first need time to recover after their gruelling first encounter.
