Chantelle Cameron accuses Katie Taylor of avoiding trilogy fight
Former undisputed super-lightweight champion, Chantelle Cameron, has spoken out after demands for a trilogy bout between her and boxing legend, Katie Taylor, believing that the Irishwoman is steering clear of another showdown.
Cameron handed Taylor her first loss when they met last May, winning a majority-decision to successfully defend her status as undisputed super-lightweight title-holder and deny Taylor the honour of becoming a multi-divisional world champion, putting an end to plans of her rematch with pound-for-pound star, Amanda Serrano.
However, six months later, Taylor met with Cameron in a rematch and got her vengeance, as well as her wish of becoming a two-weight champion, claiming a majority-decision win of her own, although many fans felt that she was fortunate to get the nod in the back-and-forth thriller.
After two spellbinding contests, where the styles appeared to naturally align for a barnstormer, fans have beckoned for another meeting between the two rivals. Although, on her Instagram, Cameron shared her belief that Taylor will instead take a ‘keep-busy’ fight.
“Just an update on talks with the Katie fight, I have agreed to a massive purse reduction to make this fight happen financially as this was what I was told was the hold up from the fight being agreed.
The reason is because I wanted to create my own legacy.
Now it looks like Katie will take a “keep busy” fight and avoid me as I think she knows that certain things that went her way in the last fight won’t happen again.
Sorry to the actual boxing fans who wanted to see this fight but the trilogy not happening is down to Katie and her team and not me.”
With Taylor turning 38 in July and recently vacating her IBF and WBO lightweight titles, it appears as though she is set to remain at 140lbs, although no official decision as been confirmed as of yet.
