Connor Butler reflects on his career ahead of DAZN headliner
Connor Butler (11-0, 1KO) is looking to add the British Flyweight title to his growing list of accolades – including a Commonwealth and European title – as the top prospect takes on Welshman Jay Harris at the Olympia Stadium in Liverpool this Saturday, live on DAZN.
The Dennis Hobson Fight Academy show begins live on DAZN at 7pm, with main event ringwalks scheduled for 10pm.
The 26-year-old technician has enjoyed a glowing start to his professional career, hardly looking fazed as he’s racked up 11 dominant victories.
The British star opened up on the sacrifices he has had to make since turning pro in 2018, revealing in an interview with the Liverpool Echo that it has not been an easy process, but a worthwhile one.
“My birthday was February 12, just gone, and then a big one for me is Valentine’s Day with my missus, but we can celebrate all that after a nice victory.
“It is the lifestyle we all choose. We signed up for this, and we understand there are going to be lonely and tough moments.
“But at the end of the day, it is a nice way to motivate yourself through hard times, but it is the support from my family and my missus, her family around me, that keeps you going. They make the hard moments easier.
“I saw a boss quote a while back about the journey to success. Everyone thinks it is a straight road, but it is not. There are a lot of ups and downs on the way to where you want to get.
“It is what defines you as a person to keep going, and I am not one of them for a sob story; I just get in, and whatever gets put in front of me, that is the goal.”
Butler appears confident ahead of his showdown in a few days’ time. Assured in his own ability ‘Top Dog’ can see himself rising to the very top of the flyweight division.
“I have got the ability and confidence to overcome anything because I know I have a world title in me, and that is where we are looking to go.”
A win on Saturday will see Butler move further through the rankings as the London-born Liverpudlian edges ever closer to a hopeful world title shot.
The undercard will see one of the country’s brightest prospects Joe McGrail (8-0, 4KO) enter into his ninth pro bout. Trained by Paul Stevenson at the Everton Red Triangle gym in Liverpool, the unbeaten featherweight and younger brother of Peter McGrail is still just 21-years-old with a very promising future in the sport ahead oh him.
