British champion is more than happy to fight on away show to defend belt
A current British champion has said he would be happy to arrange a fight with rival broadcaster Matchroom to make the next defence of his title.
Brixton boxer Isaac Chamberlain (16-2, 8KO) is one of the UK’s leading cruiserweight boxers, currently ranked in the top 15 in the world with all five governing bodies.
Back in October, the WBA and IBF #9 defeated Mikael Lawal to lift the British Lonsdale belt having turned his life around after formative years involved in crime.
That big win came after his only defeats at the hands of Chris Billam-Smith, who is the current WBO world cruiserweight champion, and Lawrence Okolie, who held that same title before losing to Billam-Smith.
Now he is looking to make a first defence of that title and would happily do so against Chev Clarke, an unbeaten Jamaican-British boxer who fought for Jamaica in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and has since had eight professional fights and won six by knockout.
Speaking to NoSmokeSport, 30-year-old Londoner Chamberlain expressed his interest in the fight even if it was on a rival network.
“For me personally, I love having fights that people are like ‘oh wow this could be close, what could happen here?’
“I don’t mind going over to Matchroom. Let’s go. So if Eddie can send an offer over to Mick Hennessey and Hennessy Sports then we can really start making things happen. 100%, I will gladly do it. I’ve fought on Matchroom before, they’ve been very hospitable, and I would like to do it again.”
This past weekend, Viddal Riley outpointed Mikael Lawal to defend his English title and both Chamberlain and Clarke tried to force their way in to the post-fight interviews on Sky Sports.
