British boxer announces fight with No.1 ranked super middleweight
A British boxer has secured a huge fight with a number one ranked super-middleweight that could see him go on to get a world title shot should he win.
That man is Mark Heffron, a big-puncher who was the British and Commonwealth title holder until he lost to his former gym-mate Jack Cullen last September.
Since then he has linked up with a new coach, Lee Beard, and got back to winning ways in February with a knockout of Serhii Ksendzov.
The 32-year old will now face unbeaten and heavy-handed Frenchman Christian Mbilli at the Gervais Auto Centre in Quebec when the WBC continental and the WBA international belts will be up for grabs.
Heffon shared the news in a message on X: “Fight Announcement. Dare to be great! Since I started boxing I have dreamt of an opportunity like this. I am going out to Canada to take on unbeaten Christian Mbilli. The winner of this will be in line for a world title #teamheffron #fightnight #oldhamhour”
28-year-old Mbilli’s recent wins have come against Carlos Gongora and Rohan Murdock, and he is now ranked in the top five with all four major governing bodies while also sitting pretty number three in the Ring Magazine rantings.
As such, this is a tough fight for Heffron that will require him to be at his very best.
