Footage of a boxer getting KO’d then given a draw has gone viral
Hard-hitting Nigerian Idowu Rasheed (5-1-1, 5KO) KO’d his Ghanaian opponent Bastie Samir (20-1-1, 18KO) in an UBO African light-heavyweight title fight on April 13 in Accra, Ghana.
However, despite the conclusive ending, the score was later read out as a draw.
The bizarre footage has gone viral on X, with up to a million views and thousand people commenting on the bizarre activity.
25-year-old Rasheed’s backhand right uppercut was snapping the Ghanaian’s head back copiously, but the referee in charge stepped in every time the home fighter was dazed.
In round one, Samir dropped his head down and Idowu’s glove grazed across the top of his lowered dome, yet he was warned for hitting around the back when usually the fighter dropping his head would be instructed to keep his head up.
Then, there’s a moment where Rasheed has his man hurt on the ropes, a big right uppercut-left hook goes in to stagger Samir and the official steps yet again in to stop the onslaught, sending Samir to his home corner to deduct a point from the away fighter, but it’s not known what for.
In round two, a big left hook sends Samir crashing through the ropes, but he bravely gets back to his feet. Patiently, Rasheed jabs his man back to the corner where he slams in uppercuts and hooks, a final big left hook to the chin crumpling Samir heavily to the canvas.
The Ghanaian instantly received medical attention, while the MC later announced the decision as a technical draw.
Rasheed’s trainer later commented, “I have not seen this kind of cheating in boxing in my lifetime.”
The Nigerian Boxing Authority has already lodged a complaint with the African Boxing Confederation.
