Bob Arum is excited to see this “special talent” headline on ESPN
O’Shaquie Foster (21-2, 12KOs) is due to step into the ring this Friday against Abraham Nova (23-1, 16KOs) to defend his WBC super featherweight strap in New York, and has earned praise from promoter Bob Arum ahead of the clash.
The championship contest will mark ‘Ice Water’s’ second title defence after two impressive victories to claim then defend his belt over Rey Vargas and Eduardo Hernandez.
Foster will be the heavy favourite ahead of Friday’s showdown, with Nova making his first steps into fighting boxing’s elite.Nevertheless, ‘Super’ Nova is an exciting, aggressive fighter and a dangerous puncher. The 30-year-old champion will have to keep his wits about him if he wants to avoid trouble against the bookies favourite.
Legendary promoter Bob Arum, 91, has sang Foster’s praises on X, revealing his excitement ahead of Friday’s showdown.
“Friday’s card at the MSG Theater should be a great one, as O’Shaquie Foster defends his 130-pound title against Abraham Nova and Brooklyn’s Bruce Carrington faces Bernard Torres. Foster is a special talent, and we’re excited to see him headlining on ESPN.”
A win for Foster could potentially set him up for a unification bout. Joe Cordina and Anthony Cacace are ready to unify the IBF and IBO belts in a May showdown on the ‘Ring of Fire’ undercard.
With WBO champion Lamont Roach currently without a fight, a second unification bout within the super featherweight division could be on the horizon.
