Ben Whittaker faces unbeaten Ezra Arenyenka next
Ben Whittaker answered the callout from unbeaten fighter Ezra Arenyenka and has now been speaking about the fight.
Whittaker has had just seven fights and won them all, five by knockout, at this early stage in his career.
The former Olympic silver medalist has often made headlines for his flashy ring entrances and excessive showboating in the ring, and it was that which led Arenyenka to call him out and storm the press conference before Whittaker’s last fight against Leon Willings.
Speaking to Boxing Social, Whittaker was asked about being allied out by Arenyenka and how he did it.
“Interesting indeed. He came, did what he did, looks his opportunity, but I’m going to make a great example of him to not do that again.”
He then said how he felt to have people call him out so often.
“It’s been like that since the amateurs. But of course with a bit of media now, my following, as a pro, it’s ridiculous. But to me it’s a compliment people are doing this with no belts, no notable wins on my record, it makes me laugh. People will do anything for clout. It’s all good and part of the game and getting my name out there but I continue to train the way I do.”
He was then asked about his last showing and failure to stop his man, a fight in which he took more punches than usual.
“For me, focus on the game, get the win and the wins are all that matters. If I do everything am supposed to do, 2024, bigger, better names.”
Whittaker will take on Arenyeka on the undercard of the all-British cruiserweight title fight between Chris Billam-Smith and Richard Riakporhe at Selhurst Park on June 15, live on Sky Sports.
Likeable Londoner Isaac Chamberlain (16-2, 8KO) will challenge Polish champion Michal Cieslak (26-2, 20KO) for his European cruiserweight championship on the same stacked card.
