Unbeaten Brit calls for Ben Whittaker to face him on March 31
Fast-rising British light heavyweight talent Ben Whittaker has been called out by a fellow unbeaten contender for a fight next month.
Whittaker has looked superb in his first few fights in the paid ranks, though is very much in the apprenticeship stage of his career, learning the ropes against opponents he is expected to beat. For that reason, he has generated plenty of different opinions with regard to his showboating. Some world champions have come out to support it, while others have claimed it is disrespectful at this level.
Whittaker is an Olympic medallist who is tipped for the top and is currently training with Sugar Hill, who also coaches the current WBC and Lineal heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury. He fights with the BOXXER promotion, headed by Ben Shalom, on Sky Sports and now he has been called out.
In a message posted on X by Callum Simpson, the gauntlet has been laid down.
“Only me and Ben Whittaker without opponents for the 31st of March……
“Simpson vs Whittaker anyone?”
Simpson hails from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, and has a current record of 13 fights, 13 wins, and nine knockouts. After winning the Central Area title in October 2022, BOXXER signed the super-middleweight champion in February 2023.
There has been no response from anyone on Whitaker’s side yet but he has been confirmed to appear on the March 31 undercard of Fabio Wardley vs Frazer Clarke on Sky Sports, along with Simpson and Chris Kongo who faces Florian Marku.
