Ben Whittaker is one of the most talked about boxers in the world right now
British boxer Ben Whittaker has been the talk of the boxing world in the last week and now he has revealed how many fights he has left on his contract with the Boxxer promotional outfit.
Whittaker has already cast himself as a controversial figure who decides fans. That’s down to his fighting style, which is punctuated with brazen showboating, tricks, dancing, and general tomfoolery. Some onlookers don’t like it, while one American world champion has very much come out to support it.
The former Olympic medalist turned light heavyweight hopeful’s most recent dazzling display came at the weekend when he knocked out journeyman Khalid Graidia in impression fashion.
Speaking to the MMA Hour, he was asked how many fights he had left with Boxxer.
“I don’t know if I can say that yet but you’ll soon see what the next direction is. There is always a plan. There are baby steps and future plans but I kind of know my next five steps.”
He was then asked how far off he is from being the face of British boxing.
“Not far to be honest but of course, there is always a process to these things. You need fights, you need a title, you need all those things to line up but skill-wise and marketing wise I’m not far off.”
He was asked about the differences between audiences in the UK and the US.
“Sometimes in the UK it can be very plain, very simple, and when someone comes out with something different they don’t know how to take it and they’re not used to it on their plate.”
This week’s reactions to his last fight have very much shown that to be true.
