Barnsley FC will hold a minute’s applause today in memory of Callum Simpson’s late sister, Lily-Mae
Undefeated British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion Callum Simpson’s sister, Lily-Mae, sadly passed away last month.
The 19-year-old was involved in a fatal car accident whilst on holiday in Zante. She was flown to Athens by air ambulance, given emergency treatment and spent 10 days in ICU, but sadly passed away from her injuries on August 21.
Callum has been passionately backed by League 1 side Barnsley FC during his professional career, and his lifelong club fittingly pay tribute to his beloved sister today with a minute’s applause during the 19th minute of their match at Oakwell Stadium today.
Currently seventh in League 1, Barnsley host Bristol Rovers today with a 3pm kick-off time.
Bereaved brother Callum will be in attendance with his mourning family in what will be both a difficult and proud moment for them all, poignantly shared with over 10,000 respectful fans.
An emotional 27-year-old Simpson shared the following message on social media:
“In memory of Lily-Rae Simpson.
“Today, Barnsley FC fans have kindly organised a minute’s round of applause in the 19th minute of the match against Bristol Rovers for my beautiful little sister, Lily-Rae.
“I’ll be going to the game with my little brother and sister, Lennon and Nancy. The last time they were at Oakwell, the crowd was cheering for me after my fight, so it will be special for them to see thousands of people applauding their big sister instead.
“We’re so grateful to the Barnsley community for this lovely gesture. It means so much to us to see everyone come together to keep Lily-Rae’s memory alive.
“Forever in our hearts.”
BBN would like to offer Callum, Lennon, Nancy and all his family and friends their deepest condolences. Rest in peace, Lily-Mae.
