Nigel Benn believes Anthony Joshua beat Oleksandr Usyk if they completed trilogy
Retired boxing legend Nigel Benn holds firm that in a potential third bout between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, it would be ‘AJ’ emerging victorious.
Despite Joshua’s two prior losses to Usyk in 2021 and 2022, 60-year-old Benn remains confident in his abilities.
Joshua’s upcoming match against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou on March 8 adds to the anticipation. With recent victories over Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius, and Jermaine Franklin, two-time heavyweight champ Joshua enters the ring in top form. Notably, his December win against Wallin under trainer Ben Davison showcased his dominance, securing a resounding victory after just five rounds.
Speaking to Fruity Slots, former two-weight world champion and British boxing legend Benn assessed where he thinks Joshua is at.
“I’m so happy AJ looked like his old self, he went a bit gun-shy. Ben Davison looks to have brought it out of him. If he fights like that against Usyk a third time, I think he puts it on him, with that right attitude, with that right frame of mind, I think he would do him.”
He then looked ahead to his next fight with Ngannou.
“I was very impressed in his last fight, he can go on to fight Fury and Usyk and call it a day. He’s got Ngannou, but who really is Ngannou, did he fight the best version Fury? Where was Fury’s mind at? I think AJ will do a number on him and if AJ hits him he will hurt him. I think AJ is too powerful for Ngannou.”
There are now just two weeks to go until the world finds out, while Usyk faces Tyson Fury on May 18 in the undisputed fight.
