Anthony Joshua previews the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight
Two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has joined the ranks of big names from the boxing world to make his prediction for the upcoming fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
Tyson, a heavyweight icon, will enter the ring at 58 to face Paul, aged 27, in July. The fight, set at the AT&T Stadium, to be streamed live on Netflix, has faced criticism from many boxing enthusiasts.
It seems, like many others, that ‘AJ’ holds mixed sentiments about the event. He was speaking about it on the Jonathon Ross show recently and his thoughts have been shared on X by boxing journalist Michael Benson.
“He [Tyson] is older now. I pray that he comes out healthy. I think Jake Paul [wins] because of youth – that’s the only thing…
“I personally think [influencer boxing] is really good. I think the boxing hardcores, they don’t like it because they think, ‘Why are they disrespecting our sport?’
“But I think that a person brings all these people into boxing which benefits everyone else. Everyone viewing helps.”
This week, Tyson clarified that his upcoming bout with fellow American Paul would be an exhibition match, putting an end to weeks of speculation.
Paul’s most recent fight was in March, where he defeated professional boxer Ryan Bourland in the first round, bringing his record to 9-1. Paul’s only defeat occurred against Tommy Fury, half-brother of Tyson Fury, in February 2023.
After retiring as a professional in 2005, Tyson has only stepped into the ring once, drawing with Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match in 2020. The two men continue to share threats online as their fight draws nearer.
