Anthony Joshua bumped into Big John Fury in Saudi
Two big men came together out in Saudi Arabia this past weekend when Anthony Joshua came face to face with Tyson Fury’s father, John, who declared he was ‘a big fan.’
Although he can be a fiery figure with plenty of forthright views, John Fury has always been respectful of Joshua in interviews and has commended him for what he has done for British boxing.
He seemed to stay true to that this weekend when the pair unexpectedly ran into one another in a corridor as Fury was there to support his son Roman who is fighting on the undercard of Joshua’s contest this weekend, March 8.
It sees him take on the former UFC champion turned boxer, Francis Ngannou, who famously gave Tyson Fury a much harder than expected night’s work back in October when he knocked him down and only narrowly lost on points.
The winner of this fight is believed to be going on to face the victor of the undisputed contest between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk on May 18, also out in Saudi Arabia.
Ahead of that, this meeting between the two men was caught on camera and was very cordial as they hugged and shook hands.
AJ: “How are you, everything good?”
JF: “F****** big fella up close isn’t he?”
AJ: “Land of the giants innit. The heavyweight division has changed a lot.”
JF: “He’s probably the finest man in boxing isn’t he. Get up there my boy. Glad to meet you AJ.”
AJ: “Good to meet you as well sir. I’m going to do these photoshoots then slip off, but god bless you yeah.”
JF: “God bless you, good luck.”
Should Fury’s son Tyson and Joshua ever get to fight, it is unlikely John will stay as calm.
