Two-division world champion and fight analyst Paulie Malignaggi has provided a detailed analysis of the upcoming clash between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou. In breaking down the fight, Malignaggi emphasized Joshua’s potential to surpass Tyson Fury and secure dominance over the Cameroonian challenger.
Despite Ngannou’s impressive performance in his boxing debut, where he knocked down Fury and faced a controversial split-decision loss, Paulie Malignaggi sees an opportunity for the former UFC sensation to challenge Joshua.
Speaking on Pro Box TV, Paulie Malignaggi underscored the significance of Joshua dictating the pace and putting Ngannou on the defensive. Acknowledging the challenge posed by Ngannou’s formidable power, Malignaggi expressed confidence in Joshua’s ability to assert control.
Paulie Malignaggi commented
“I feel like he is going to back up Ngannou, take control of the ring, similar to his strategic positioning against Wallin, exhibiting psychological confidence and physical dominance. Joshua’s increased confidence over the past year, particularly evident in the Wallin fight, signals his determination to reclaim control of the ring and return to peak form.”
Expanding on his analysis, Pauli Malignaggi characterized Ngannou as a somewhat one-dimensional fighter, highlighting his limited boxing skills. He emphasized the vulnerability of punchers, even those with boxing prowess, when pressured and forced to retreat. Malignaggi suggested that Joshua, with his powerful jab and sharp, disruptive tactics, could unsettle Ngannou and exploit his reliance on punching power.
“If Joshua starts to back up Ngannou with a solid jab, disrupting his rhythm with his sharp techniques and intimidating him with his own formidable power, Ngannou could become ineffective, allowing Joshua to dominate the fight,” Malignaggi explained.
The highly anticipated Joshua-Ngannou bout is scheduled for Friday, March 8th, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the undercard details now officially confirmed.
