Ambitious Andy Cruz wants better opposition than Keyshawn Davis
Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medallist, Andy Cruz, turned professional last year and is already living up to the high expectations that were set for him, as he continues his pursuit towards a lightweight world title.
Yet, ever since he made the switch, the Cuban has been linked to a showdown with his amateur rival and now fellow lightweight contender, Keyshawn Davis, although it appears that Cruz is looking elsewhere.
Cruz improved to 3-0 with a win over Brayan Zamarripa at the weekend and now finds himself ranked in the top 15 with both the IBF and WBA, regardless of his lack of professional experience and seems set to opt for a fast-track route to a world title challenge over a grudge match with Davis.
The 28-year-old defeated the American on all four occasions that they met during their amateur careers, notably scoring victories over Davis in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic final, as well as the 2019 Pan American Games and World Championships.
‘The Businessman’ seems to be the obvious pick for a clash with Cruz in the near future, but Cruz took to social media to have a dig at his old rival whilst basking in the glory of his latest professional win, explaining that he wants to fight better opposition than Davis.
@KeyshawnDavis8 You say the gold medalist is calling you out for a challenge. I’ve never called you out stupid. You’re irrelevant at this point I’m looking to fight better. I beat you 4x already in fact you was already fighting pro came back to Olympics and i still beat you🤣🤣

Davis is ranked in the top eight with three of the five sanctioning bodies and is positioned as high as third with the WBC.
Although, he has been linked to a showdown with Teofimo Lopez for the WBO super-lightweight title, after the pair seemed to birth a rivalry of their own when they fought on the same card earlier this month.
