There’s one fight Amir Khan still regrets falling through
Amir Khan has become one of the most likeable personalities in British boxing since his retirement.
Khan briefly returned to the ring in 2022, facing fellow Briton Kell Brook in a highly anticipated grudge match. Unfortunately for the Bolton boxer, his rival got the better of him, forcing a stoppage in the sixth round.
Towards the end of his career, Khan started to gain an unjust reputation for being cursed with a shaky chin. While maybe true, it overshadowed the vast accomplishments achieved over the span of a fantastic combat career.
The Olympic silver medallist was known for his blistering hand speed and pinpoint accuracy. His high-octane tool kit enabled him to rise to the top of the super lightweight world rankings unifying the WBA and IBF titles against Zab Judah in 2011.
The 37-year-old also shared the ring with some of boxing modern greats, going toe-to-toe with Mexican PPV superstar Canelo Alvarez in 2016.
Later on in his career ‘King Khan’ faced off against pound-for-pound titan Terence Crawford, in 2019, before, of course, ending his career against Brook in February 2022.
Despite a fantastic and varied career, the boxing icon recently admitted that there was one opportunity that he regrets letting slip by.
“One of the biggest regrets of my life was with Floyd Mayweather, I was in the prime of my career and we did the deal to fight, we had a contract,” he revealed to Gambling Zone.
“I decided to announce it first and then Floyd spat his dummy out, he said ‘why have you announced it first?’ He thought he was the big star and it was up to him to announce it.
“I made that mistake, I posted ‘guys, I’m fighting Floyd Mayweather next’ and he got very bitter that I jumped the gun and it was off. I was young, 24 or 25, and I got excited about fighting a legend in the sport. But it is what it is.”
