Amir Khan would lace up the gloves again if the money is right
Former unified super-lightweight champion, Amir Khan, has admitted he would be open to making a return to the sport, if Saudi Arabian catalyst, Turki Alalshikh, was to put the correct amount of money up for a bout against another retired legend who also appears to have itchy knuckles.
‘King’ Khan retired in 2022 after suffering a knockout defeat to long-term rival, Kell Brook, although his popularity in both the United Kingdom and the Middle East remains intact.
Now 37, Khan has claimed that that he would be willing to face eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after whispers that ‘Pac-Man’ is being lined up to take on Conor Benn.
Speaking to Gambling Zone, former Olympian Khan revealed he believes that interest in a clash between he and the Filipino eclipses that of Joshua-Ngannou.
“If a deal’s on the table, I may consider coming back. You need motivation to get back in the gym more than anything. I’ve done really well in sport, I made a lot of money in the game and I don’t need to fight again.
“When big names are mentioned like Manny Pacquiao and the fact it could be in Saudi Arabia, it would be massive. There’s interest from Saudi Arabia and I know that Manny was in Saudi, so who knows. Manny wants to fight again it seems, so let’s see.
“I’d like to fight Manny. There’s been some interest. Manny is such a big name, I’m a big name in this region as well.
“Saudi Arabia makes every fight possible. I think it’s bigger than AJ-Ngannou because look at the Philippine and Pakistan population, then if you’ve got interest in the UK and the US, the whole world will be interested.”
Currently, it appears that Pacquiao-Benn is more likely, yet Khan and Pacquiao have been embroiled in fight rumours on plenty of previous occasions and it may only be a matter of time until they meet in the ring.
