Amir Khan shares his view on Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou fight
Former world champion Amir Khan has been speaking about the upcoming fight between fellow Brit Anthony Joshua and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
The showdown takes place in Saudi Arabia on March 8 and will be only Ngannou’s second-ever professional boxing match after his impressive debut against Tyson Fury back in October last year. He lost on points but put up a fine showing that earned him a ranking with the WBC.
Joshua is in fine form right now having beaten Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin last year after surrendering his titles then failing to win them back in back-to-back fights with Oleksandr Usyk before that.
Speaking to All Out Fighting, Khan gave his view on the much-anticipated fight and issued a warning about just what WBC #10 Ngannou brings to the ring.
“I think Joshua is a very smart fighter. It will still be a hard fight because you’ve got to understand, Ngannou’s got more confidence going into this fight and he thinks he can hurt, and knock out Joshua.
“He says that Joshua’s got a weak chin, so he’s going to go for that really, and try to throw those big bombs. If he connects, who knows what might happen. One thing about the heavyweight division is that if one punch lands it can change a fight.
“[Tyson Fury’s] one hard fighter to hit clean. So many top guys have tried to knock him out, knock him down or hurt him. Not to sound disrespectful; I like Joshua, I think he’s a great fighter but I think he’s easier to hit than Fury.
“The way people look at boxing now, after that fight with Fury, is that boxers are a little bit weaker than MMA fighters. This is where Joshua needs to show them that boxers are not weaker; boxers are better and stronger.”
Whoever wins this fight is very much nine to fight the winner of the undisputed fight on May 17 between Fury and Usyk.
