Alejandro Santiago lands in Japan to defend his title
World Boxing Council bantamweight champion, Mexican star Alejandro “Peque” Santiago (28-3, 14KO), has arrived in Japan, at Narita international airport, near Tokyo.
28-years-old from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Santiago is ready to face his Japanese challenger and undefeated former world fly and super flyweight champion Junto Nakatani (26-0, 19KO), 26, in a fight that takes place on Saturday, February 24 at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo.
It’ll be the first defence of the Mexican’s WBC bantamweight belt, which he won in July 2023 in Las Vegas, by defeating the brave Filipino Nonito Donaire by unanimous decision.
Santiago spoke to Japanese journalists upon his arrival: “I recognise that Nakatani is a tough and excellent fighter. But I am a worthy world champion who arrives in Japan ready to defend his title.”
He added, “After my coronation as WBC world bantamweight champion by beating Donaire, I became a fighter with more motivation and a more hungry spirit to continue achieving triumphs and growing my career. I have the ambition to become a unified world Champ.”
