Adrien Broner and Michael Hunter share same card in the summer
Adrien Broner (35-4-1, 24KO) is one of the most divisive men in boxing, but despite only fighting once in the past three years, ‘The Problem’ is about to return to the ring once more, and there will be an even bigger shock appearance on the undercard in the heavyweight division.
Boxing journalist Michael Benson broke the news in a new post on X.
As well as details on the Broner fight, he has revealed that inactive, avoided heavyweight Michael Hunter will also be be in action.
“Announced: Adrien Broner will face Blair Cobbs in a welterweight clash on June 7th in Florida. Also on the card, Noel Mikaelian will defend his WBC cruiserweight world title vs Ryan Rozicki, plus Cassius Chaney vs Michael Hunter for the vacant WBA ‘interim’ heavyweight belt.”
Broner and Cobbs, both aged 34, stand out as vibrant personalities in the boxing world.
Four-weight world champion Broner returned to the ring last June after a hiatus since early 2021, having fought only twice since his defeat to Manny Pacquiao in 2019. Despite being well past his prime, the brash boxer, who often courts controversy in and out the ring, still garners attention, even on smaller-scale events like this one.
Cobbs, who has a record of 16-1-1 with 10 knockouts, is expected to be the perfect opponent to generate buzz alongside Broner. Cobbs’ last fight was in August 2022, where he defeated Maurice Hooker, following a decisive loss to Alexis Rocha five months earlier.
Hunter meanwhile has been frustrated by a lack of action in the past as a high-risk low-reward opponent.
He has secured big wins over the likes of Martin Bakole and has drawn with Jerry Forrest and Alexander Povetkin. He was last out with a win in March over Ignacio Esparza and now somehow gets the chance to fight Cassius Chaney for a WBA title.
