Abel Sanchez shares his expert views on Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall rematch
Long-term trainer of Gennadiy Golovkin, Abel Sanchez, gave his prediction for the highly-anticipated rematch between fierce rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall on May 25 on neutral ground in Leeds.
In their first fight, over two years ago in 2022, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ was able to (controversially) retain his undisputed status at super lightweight despite an eighth-round knockdown, two cuts on his left eye and a late points deduction.
The decision to deny challenger Catterall, despite appearing to win the fight on the night, was met with such disappointment that one of the ringside judges was called in front of the British Board to explain his scoring and subsequently downgraded.
The eagerly-awaited return fixture has got everyone excited again, especially after the heated press tour which saw Chorley’s Catterall constantly shoving Josh at every opportunity, which is why the rematch is aptly titled, ‘Hate Runs Deep’.
BBN spoke exclusively with 2015 Trainer of the Year, Abel Sanchez, who has trained world champions Lupe Aquino, Terry Norris, Orlin Norris, and Gennadiy Golovkin.
The 69-year-old veteran trainer is a fan of ‘The Tornado’ and believes that lightning may strike twice, “Good fight, their first was close enough to have gone either way,” he began. “This time, Taylor’s elite-level experience wins, with a wider margin.”
Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall will finally meet in a hugely anticipated rematch takes place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday May 25, shown live on DAZN in the UK and around the world and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S.
