Reactions to Tyson Fury’s latest retirement
Frank Warren: “I wasn’t expecting it,” Warren admitted. “I was quite surprised, but you know what – I respect him 100%. That is his decision, and I’ll respect where he’s at, and everybody else should do that as well.
“He’s had some of the best fights since his second coming—some amazing, exciting fights. When Tyson is in the ring, it’s always exciting. I’m sure he has discussed this with his family, and between them, they have advised him. This is the decision that he’s made, and God bless him—I hope he enjoys it.
“He’s the one who has taken the punches; it’s got to be what he thinks. If that’s what he thinks, then everybody should support him. I certainly do, and I won’t for one minute encourage him back at all. That is where he is at, that is where his mind is, so everybody should respect that.”
Eddie Hearn: “Yeah, I think if you haven’t got the heart for it anymore and you don’t want to compete anymore then I think retirement is the best option.
“Disappointing, obviously, for British fight fans because we’ve got the chance to make the biggest fight in boxing, but if that is the last we see of him, he’s had a great career, [but] I doubt it.
“But it’s always best to come into retirement to make sure someone pays you to come out of retirement. I think it’s a natural play.”
Tim Rickson: “I think the announcement came while all eyes were on the lavish Ring magazine awards with a who’s who of guests. As Tyson Fury was not in attendance, he has posted this message of retirement and ended up stealing all the headlines away, which, to me, appeared to be purposeful.
“I am exactly the same as everyone else – I don’t believe it for a second.”
