Wayne Alexander interviewed as part of Tales from the Ring podcast
Taking part in today’s Q&A is former British, European and WBU world champion, Wayne Alexander (24-3, 18KO).
Known during his 1995 to 2006 career as ‘Alexander the Great’, Wayne was known for his exciting style and punching power, which resulted in the super-welterweight winning British, European and WBU World titles.
Now 51, Alexander still keeps his hand in boxing as a referee and judge, plus he’s always available to provide fight previews and predictions for BBN too.
1. What age did you start boxing?
“11 years of age.”
2. Which clubs did you represent?
“Croydon ABC and Lynn AC.”
3. What was the first title you won?
“Junior ABA title.”
4. Who is the best trainer you have had?
“Jimmy Tibbs and John Breen.”
5. Who is the best opponent you have faced?
“Harry Simon. I fought him at very short notice for the WBO World welterweight title. He retired an undefeated world champion with a record of 31-0.”
6. What was the best moment in your career?
“Winning the British professional title.”
7. Who is the hardest puncher you faced?
“Paul Samuels.”
8 What was your favourite punch?
“Slipping the jab then throw the right hand.”
9. What was the best part of being a boxer?
“The winning .”
10. What was the worst part of being a boxer?
“Doing the roadwork.”
11. Who is your favourite boxer of all time?
“Marvin Hagler.”
12. What is the best piece of advice you received?
“Live the life of a fighter, it’s a short career.”
