Robert Helenius handed two year ban after losing to Anthony Joshua in 2023
‘The Nordic Nightmare’ Robert Helenius was sensationally knocked out by an explosive Anthony Joshua right hand in round seven of their August 2023 12-round clash in London.
Now the Finnish fighter has been KO’d again, by UKAD, who have handed the 40-year-old with a two-year doping ban.
It appears that his boxing career could now be over after testing positive for the prohibited substance clomifene.
Helenius blamed the adverse finding on chicken and eggs, very similar to the situation with Conor Benn.
He was initially given a provisional suspension, which has been extended to an official ban after insufficient evidence of his claim was provided.
UKAD said in a statement, “Following a request by UKAD, Mr. Helenius was unable to provide any evidence that the eggs and chicken meat he had consumed in advance of the bout originated from hens that had been administered clomifene.
“Mr. Helenius was therefore unable to identify the source of clomifene in his sample and therefore unable to reduce the applicable period of ineligibility of two years.”
