IBO super-middleweight world champion Osleys Iglesias puts in powerful performance against Evgeny Shvedenko
IBO World super-middleweight champion Osleys Iglesias (11-0, 10KO) scored a stunning stoppage for a statement win against once-beaten Evgeny Shvedenko (16-2-1, 7KO) in Montreal on Thursday, June 6.
Signed to Eye of the Tiger Management, KO artist Osleys Iglesias landed a powerful right hook to the temple of Evgeny Shvedenko to drop the challenger heavily in the opening round.
It was a frightening watch, as Shevdenko not only crumpled to canvas instantly, but his limbs then flung outwards uncontrollably as he lay on his back helpless, his arms continuing to box and legs kicking out wildly.
The official time of the knockout was 2:48, and is his second in a row having KO’d Marcelo Coceres in 127 seconds three months ago in March. If his 90% KO ratio wasn’t fearsome enough, he now has six first-round stoppages within just 11 wins.
The Cuban southpaw was a decorated amateur and is now unbeaten in 11 pro bouts, ranked 7th by BoxRec, and is the only other beltholder at super-middleweight besides Canelo.
The Mexican megastar is looking for an opponent to fight on his traditional September date, and 26-year-old rising star Iglesias has now firmly put his name in the frame for a shot at the P4P superstar.
There’s also fellow countryman Edgar Berlanga in the runnings to land the golden ticket against Canelo.
