One of the UK’s brightest prospects Caroline Dubois returns to the ring this Saturday against America’s Miranda Reyes, as she defends her IBO World Lightweight Title for the first time at the OVO Arena, Wembley
Dubois captured the IBO title last time out, as she lit up the iconic York Hall in London with a dominant display, earning a wide points decision over Magali Rodriguez, dropping her Mexican counterpart in both rounds six and nine.
Dubois became one of the most sought-after prospects following her representation for Team GB in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, and it would be BOXXER and Sky Sports who would secure the signature of the amateur.
Dubois raced to 6-0 with some dominant and eye-catching performances, stopping five of those opponents, proving that her style had adapted to the professional ranks. It would be her seventh night when she announced herself on the world stage with the victory over Rodriguez to capture the IBO title.
The 23-year-old star has her eyes set on more gold, and following Katie Taylor relinquishing her IBF world title, Dubois has been ordered to challenge Olympic Silver medalist Beatriz Ferreira for the vacant belt. ‘Sweet Caroline’ was initially ordered to fight domestic rival Rhiannon Dixon for the IBF title, however, Dixon opted to pursue a shot at the vacant WBO title against Karen Carabajal.
Whilst the eyes may be on more titles, the reigning IBO champion cannot afford to look past the task at hand this Saturday. Reyes comes into the bout off back-to-back unanimous decisions in the US and is coming to the UK with a firm aim of becoming the IBO World Champion. Reyes has stopped three of her nine opponents.
Reyes has yet to fight over the ten-round distance, which is something that could work in the champion’s favour, but its a challenge the American will embrace in her efforts to become World champion.
Dubois and Reyes will collide in the ring this Saturday, as the feature on the undercard of the highly-anticipated domestic grudge match between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez, and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK, and Peacock in the US.
