Great triumph for Nery Plata in Germany
In Germany, on Saturday, December 16, Mexican Yesica Nery Plata achieved her third victory on foreign soil to retain her WBC and WBA light flyweight world championships.
She defeated German Sarah Bormann by split decision, who saw her unbeaten streak cut to 17-1 with 7 knockouts.
In an excellent performance, Nery Plata dominated her rival with precise, effective counterpunches. She proactively forced the fight at all times, showing great heart.
Yesica demonstrated great footwork to effectively evade the challenger’s attacks.
In the ninth the Referee deducted a point from the Mexican for using her forearm, but this did not stop the great combat plan designed by her coach and her father, Óscar Nery.
In the 10th and final round, an offensive by the Mexican forced Bormann to spit out her mouthguard to gain recovery time.
In the end, two judges saw Nery Plata win by 97-92 and 96-93; and the card that favored Bormann was 95-94.
It was Yésica Nery’s third victory outside Mexico. She captured the WBA crown in Panama, with a win over Jessica Bopp. She won the WBC title in Canada, beating Kim Clavel and now she made this important defense of the world title.
