Gomez vs Clavel is off
26-year-old Mexican Yesenia ‘Niña’ Gómez (19-5-3, 6KOs) was scheduled to defend her World Boxing Council light flyweight title this Thursday in Quebec, against the undefeated Kim Clavel (15-0, 3KOs), but unfortunately covid has prevented it.
Canadian Clavel tested positive for Covid 19 as confirmed by promoter Yvon Michel this morning: “We learned that unfortunately Kim Clavel contracted the COVID-19 virus. Unfortunately, her fight this Thursday, April 21 against the champion Yesenia Gómez will not be able to take place. We will release more details soon.”
Clavel, 31 years old from Montreal and undefeated in 15 fights, has been preparing the Latina groundwork to face the champion, since five of her last six opponents have been of Mexican nationality, in addition to having faced 11 Mexican boxers since her professional debut after Olympic success.
Unbeaten in her last seven fights, Gómez Vázquez has defended the crown against excellent rivals and hopes to return to the ring soon.
BBN would like to wish Kim a speedy recovery.
