William Zepeda defeats “JoJo” Diaz
Mexican lightweight William “El Camarón” Zepeda (27-0, 23KO) maintained his undefeated record by defeating former world champion Joseph “JoJo” Díaz Jr. (32-3-1, 15KO) by unanimous decision at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California.
Despite Diaz’s extensive experience, “Camarón” Zepeda dominated the fight, unleashing power shots, en route to a lopsided victory of 119-109, 119-109 and 118-110 on all three judges’ scorecards.
Unbeaten Mexican Zepeda simply overwhelmed Diaz with non-stop power shots for most of the rounds, putting him in a predicament on several occasions. Diaz was cut below his left eye from legal punches in round four, then was cut again under the right eye from accidental headbutt in the sixth.
With this victory, 26-year-old “Camarón” improved his record to 27-0, with 23 knockouts, while “JoJo” Díaz drops to 32-3-1, with 15 knockouts.
Undefeated IBF World flyweight champion Leonela Paola Yudica was beaten for the first time by Arely Mucino in the undercard action.
Hector Valdez triumphed over Max Ornelas via split decision in their battle of two unbeaten boxers.
