On Saturday, October 28, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Chatham's undefeated heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma (5-0, 3KO) faces hard-hitting Hungarian Istvan Bernath (10-1, 8KO), live on TNT Sports PPV.
As Bernath has never fought as a professional in the UK before, he is quite unknown to British boxing fans, so BBN have listed a host of information about the heavyweight below:
Istvan Bernath was born January 28, 1989, in Budapest, Hungary.
As an amateur, he won a silver medal in the super-heavyweight division at the 2008 EU Championships and at the 2009 EU Championships. He lost in the 2008 finals to David Price, then in 2009, it was Welshman John Jones who beat him to win the tournament. He aslo won silver in the 2009 EUBC EU Championships, losing to Erik Pfeifer.
He fought Tyson Fury twice, in the 2006 AIBA World Youth Championships Quarter-Finals and in the 2007 EABA EU Youth Championships Final – both times losing by RSC (Referee stops contest).
He has also fought against Anthony Joshua opponent, Roberto Cammarelle; plus Briton Joe Joyce and Olympic and World amateur champion Tony Yoka.
As an amateur, he once fought in Liverpool (Greenbank Sports Academy) in 2008.
He also took part in the prestigious World Series Boxing for the USA Knockouts team.
His amateur record on BoxRec is listed as 57-31.
He is 6'4" (193cm) tall.
His professional debut was in March 2021 in Miami against Johnny Jackson, which he won within 152 seconds.
He reached 9-0 in his first year, winning nine fights in nine months, but then only fought twice in 2022.
His sole career defeat came in his last fight, in December 2022, against an ABF USA heavyweight champion, Terrell Jamal Woods; stopped with one second to go in the fourth round of a scheduled eight.
All 11 bouts have been fought in America.
He has an 80% KO ratio, after knocking out eight of his 10 victims.
His opponents' combined records add up to 97-173-20. Itauma's opponents' together are 27-28-2.
Bernath will be the first opponent Itauma has faced who has double figure victories.
