Things you didn't know about Rodolfo Orozco German
Unbeaten Briton Conor Benn (21-0, 14KO) resumes his bridled boxing career this weekend when he faces seasoned Mexican Super-Welterweight Rodolfo ‘Sinaloita’ Orozco (32-3-3, 24KO) at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida as the co-main event to Hitchins-Zepeda this Saturday, September 23.
Benn was provisionally suspended back in April, effective as of March 15, when his fight with Chris Eubank Jr last October was postponed, so it's been over 19 months since the former WBA Continental titlist last fought. His 22nd opponent, Orozco, is an experienced campaigner, but not much is known about the young Mexican, so BBN looked up some interesting facts ahead of fight night right here:
Rodolfo Orozco Facts
Rodolfo Orozco German was born 26th June, 1999, in Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico and is currently aged 24.
His boxing nickname is ‘Sinaloita’, which is a term for where he is from.
He made his professional debut in 2016 at just 16 years of age.
He won the Mexican Pacific Coast super-lightweight title in December 2018.
Standing at 6ft 1in, hard-hitting Orozco has 24 knockouts on his resumé and won his last two fights with successive stoppages.
He boasts a 75% KO ratio.
He is currently ranked in the top 20 super-lightweights in Mexico, according to BoxRec.
Rodolfo signed with Sampson Boxing in October 2019. Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz is credited for being the one to discover Manny Pacquiao before he became famous. Lewkowicz said of his new signing at the time, “Sinaloita Orozco is a very talented boxer with great potential and his manager Javier Landeros and [agent] Fernando Dominguez are good and honest men who care very much for their fighters. I look forward to bringing this young prospect to the United States where he can start his climb to the world-class. They are a good team and I’m happy to be working with them.”
Orozco’s manager, Javier Landeros, always aimed to strengthen and mature his young prospect before bringing him to Lewkowicz, “We knew we were going to sign with Sampson as the promoter and Fernando Dominguez as the agent from the start. German has grown into a strong and talented fighter who is ready for the challenges he needs to become a contender and champion. I trust Sampson to help guide us to big fights internationally, where he can show the world the newest talent from Mexico.”
However, Sampson Lewkowicz hasn't represented Orozco since 2020.
Orozco hasn't fought outside of his native Mexico ever before. Going up against Benn in his 39th bout will be his first fight abroad.
Two of his three defeats came against unbeaten opponents.
He has only completed 167 of 280 rounds during his eight-year career.
18 of his 24 KOs have come within the first half of his bouts, and 17 within just three rounds.
His opponents' combined records add up to 451-331-27. Benn's total is 241-77-24.
