Campbell Hatton faces Jakub Laskowski in third pro bout
Campbell Hatton’s (2-0) third pro bout on July 31 has come around quickly, just four months on from his pro debut in March.
The 20-year-old Manchester City fan, trained by his uncle Matthew, defeated Spaniard Jesus Ruiz (0-11) on March 27 on points in his professional debut; then he saw off British journeyman Levi Dunn (0-4) in his next fight on the blockbuster Derek Chisora vs Joseph Parker Sky Sports Box Office event on May 1. Both times 'Hurricane' Hatton triumphed 40-36, so has yet to lose a round.
He will want to continue that good form into his third professional contest against Polishman Jakub Laskowski (4-4-1, 2KOs) on 'Week One' of Matchroom's 'Fight Camp' series in Brentwood, Essex.
Fledgling pro Campbell has been boxing properly since the age of 14 and won a National Novice title and two North West titles. After struggling to get suitable amateur boxing matches, he turned pro in December last year and is already heading into his third professional contest.
BBN decided to dig up some interesting info about his next opponent, Jakub Laskowski:
Who is Jakub Laskowski?
Jakub was born in Siemianowice, a city in Upper Silesia in southern Poland. Siemianowice was one of the first places to be invaded in World War 2 and suffered many atrocities at the hands of German forces for the entirety of the war. A subcamp of the Auschwitz concentration camp was established in the city, which over 900 people were held in and subjected to forced labour.
He is signed to Polish management company, Silesia-Boxing, founded in 2010 by trainer and promoter Irosław Butowicz, who has over 35 fighters signed.
Jakub has also competed in MuayThai boxing.
He was undefeated in his first five pro boxing bouts (four wins, one draw), but hasn't one any of his last four fights.
This next fight in the UK will be the fourth country he has boxed in, previously appearing in a professional ring in his home country of Poland seven times, as well as Czech Republic and Germany.
He has fought 29 rounds over nine bouts.
He has KO'd two opponents, but also been KO'd twice himself – in his last two fights.
Laskowski is ranked 12th in the Polish super-lightweight division.
His 10 opponents' combined records equal to 15-69-5.
He is currently more active than Hatton, having fought three times this year already – in January, March and May.
His weight has ranged from 138-161lbs, which is from super-lightweight to super-middleweight, whereas as Campbell has registered just 135lbs and 136lbs in his two fights.
He has the same name as Jakub Laskowski, who works with Legia Warszawa, the biggest and most successful football club in Poland, as the Director of Legal & Sport Administration, and is responsible for all sports law matters within the club, including drafting and negotiating transfer agreements, and professional contracts.
Campbell Hatton called his fight with Jakub Laskowski "a step up": "This is a step up, he’s tricky and a tall fighter, it’ll take a big of figuring out – it’ll be a bit awkward. It’ll be a good learning experience for me."
