Alen Babic faces David Spilmont on Parker-Chisora 2 card
'The Savage' is all set for bout No.10
It's 'The Fight Before Christmas' as heavyweight rivals Joseph Parker (29-2, 21KOs) and Dereck Chisora (32-11, 23KOs) collide on December 18 at the AO Arena in Manchester to settle their score after a close first fight, back in May.
Broadcast live on DAZN, the undercard is filled with top fighters, such as Lerrone Richards and Carlos Gongora in an IBO World super-middlweight clash; Jack Cullen gunning for the European super-middleweight title against stand-in opponent Kevin Lele Sadjo; and heavyweight action with Alen 'The Savage' Babic (9-0, 9KO) as he aims to take his win count into double figures against unknown Frenchman David Spilmont (11-7-1, 7KOs).
BBN found out as much info on the heavyweight as possible for fight fans to get to know him a little better:
Who is David Spilmont?
He was born David Gilbert Daniel Spilmont in 1991 in Fourmies, Nord, France. He now resides in nearby Saint-Michel, Aisne, in Northern France, which is very close to the Belgian border.
He started boxing at his local club aged 11-14, then started up again when he was 18.
He works full-time as a drywaller.
Spilmont had his pro debut in April 2013, wininng by TKO-3. He lost his next fight, less than a month later to a debutant, who had a kickboxing background and never fought in professional boxing again.
His first year-and-a-half as a pro was very checkered, with only three wins recorded and four losses. But from 2015 to 2019, he won seven contests in a row, five by KO.
There was a gap of over two years and four months between his 12th and 13th bout.
His next loss to end that seven-fight win streak was a sixth-round stoppage to 4-0 Nicolas Wamba, which was followed by two more defeats.
That third loss in the series was a second defeat at the hands of countryman Wamba, this time for the French heavyweight title, but an improved performance from Spilmont saw him miss out by just one point on one of the judges scorecards.
Since that aforementioned last loss, in June 2021, the 30-year-old has beaten a 3-0 prospect on points, then settled for a draw in his last fight, which was only 14 days before his 20th bout with Babic.
David's goal in boxing is to become the heavyweight champion of France, which his the title his ring rival Nicolas Wamba is still holding, potentially leading to a trilogy fight in the future.
He has only ever fought in three different countries – France, Belgium, Latvia. His next bout will be his first in England and fourth country he has competed in.
He is currently a 16-1 underdog for his fight with Babic at the bookies.
