What Happened with Tommy Fury?
Two of the most famous boxers, Jake Paul and Tommy Fury, were scheduled to fight on August 6, 2022. However, due to unfortunate circumstances, the fight between the American and the Briton has unfortunately been cancelled, for a second time.
Why Was Fury’s Last Fight Cancelled With Paul?
Tommy Fury was denied entry to the US due to a visa issue and, therefore, could not compete against Paul at Madison Square Garden as scheduled. He was given time till July 6 to sort out his issues but couldn’t make it within the deadline. Fury expressed his grief and frustration in an Instagram post where he tells his followers that neither he nor his team ever imagined that such a situation would arise and did not see it coming. He also said that the issue is quite serious and needs to be resolved quickly. However, Fury was optimistic about the fight and said he was confident that the contest would take place once the issue was resolved. He proposed to fight Paul in a neutral country where both of them could enter.
Earlier, Tommy was detained by homeland security when he was scheduled to travel to the US for a press conference from London’s Heathrow Airport. He was pulled to one side and told that his Electronic System for Travel Authorization had been denied and he would not be allowed to travel to the US. Fury claimed that he had done nothing wrong and did not know why the US government was preventing him from entering the States.
Paul, in his response, claimed that Fury was only trying to ‘weasel’ his way out of their fight. Paul also stated that his team and partners had told Fury clearly the steps he needed to follow to get out of the mess, but he chose not to.
Paul believes that Fury is only ‘hiding’ and that he and his team were moving on from this fight and looking for other potential opponents after his bout with Fury got cancelled.
