'Snodland Sniper' George Hennon back in the ring in September
Welterweight talent George Hennon (5-1) announced his next fight on September 24th on a Budgen Boxing show at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.
The six-fight card will be topped by Essex southpaw William Webber (9-1, 1KO) and unbeaten Bedford boxer Max Lovell (7-0) in an intruiging clash for the vacant Southern Area super-middleweight title.
Hennon, 28-years-old from Maidstone, will be back in the ring three months on from his comeback fight in June, where he defeated veteran Fonz Alexander with a punch-perfect performance to dust off six years of ring rust.
Hennon said, “I’ll be back in the ring on Saturday 24th September at the York Hall. Ready to put on another show and carry on from where we left off last time out.”
Trained by George O’Mahoney in Aylesford, Hennon was roared on in his last fight on June 25th by over 250 fans he brought from Maidstone to East London.
Despite the long layoff after almost six years away, the talented 147-pounder rose to the occasion to deliver a dazzling display against the 138-fight veteran from Newark, who had Hennon's former trainer, Johnny Greaves, in his corner. The Kent puncher had five professional boxing fights under ex-pro Greaves between 2015-2016, winning four home bouts and losing one away fight against Sam Ball in Scotland.
After a year of preparation for the comeback, Hennon backed his man up on the ropes with a relentless jab to whip in his shots in twos and threes but withdrawing just at the right time, every time, to avoid the inevitable return fire.
“I didn’t take a single shot, I felt really comfortable in there,” he reflected back. “We know with Fonz he’ll always throw a big, looping hook so you can’t get too greedy, so I was throwing a few little throwaway shots, then digging a couple in, then stepping back.
“The main thing is that I felt so relaxed in there and I just need to take that into every fight. Obviously, there’s always improvements to be made, so we’ll take it fight by fight and see where we can go.
“Looking forward to being back out in September.”
Also on the card is Ashford-born West Londoner, Mickey O'Rourke (8-1, 1KO), who gets straight back to business in a six-rounder after disappointment in losing his last fight for the Southern Area lightweight title to Connor Marsden (6-2, 2KO).
Unbeaten middleweight Ray Bear (2-0) enters into his first six-rounder to make it his third bout in six months; 'The Clipper' Conor Hinds (4-0, 2KO), 30 from Charlton, will have another four-rounder – his second of the year; busy super-middleweight Andrei Dasculu (1-0) also competes in a four-rounder, which should serve as his third fight since his debut in June, with another bout scheduled in the diary for July.
