Nogales lauds statuesque Oscar Valdez
World Boxing Council super-featherweight champion Oscar Valdez, was at the unveiling of a statue in his honour in Nogales, Sonora.
The statue of Oscar Valdez is the work of Alfredo Cota; It is made of bronze and is life-size, with a height of 1.69 meters. It was placed in the Unidad Deportiva Estrellas Nogalenses, where the boxer trained as an amateur fighter.
“It is great what they did. I am living my own movie and this gives me more motivation to raise the flag of Mexico even more. I am very excited and grateful to my people and Nogales for this recognition that motivates me to continue training hard and putting the name of my Mexico very high and above all that of my people from Nogales,” commented the champion.
Valdez retained WBC world championship, after defeating Brazilian Robson Coneicao in a close fight on September 10.
