Five great super lightweights in WBC history
On Saturday, February 26th at the Hydro Arena in Glasgow, undisputed super lightweight champion Josh “The Tartan Tornado” Taylor will take on mandatory contender Jack Catterall in a contest of undefeated British southpaws.
Catterall (26-0, 13 KOs) was scheduled to face Taylor earlier. However, he stepped aside to allow Taylor vs. Ramirez to take place and now he has the opportunity to challenge for all the marbles and become the undisputed world champion if he can pull off the major upset, while the strong favourite Josh is determined to retain his hoard of titles.
Taylor (18-0, 13 KOs) comes into his first undisputed title defence from defeating previously unbeaten Jose Carlos Ramirez in May 2021 to unify the entire division, becoming the first British boxer to win all the crowns in a four-belt era. With this victory he established himself as one of the very best pound-for-pound boxers in the world today, and solidified himself as one of Scotland's greatest of all-time.
Ahead of the Anglo-Scottish battle, the WBC have highlighted five of the best fighters in this 140lbs division in hierarchical order:
JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ
OSCAR DE LA HOYA
KOSTYA TSZYU
ROGER MAYWEATHER
TIMOTHY BRADLEY
6. Bruno Arcari
7. Arturo Gatti
8. Danny Garcia
9. Devon Alexander
10. Saensak Muangsurin
