29 British and Irish boxers ranked in WBC top 15 in September 2022
The World Boxing Council released their latest world rankings, which includes a total of 28 British and Irish boxers positioned in their top 15 tables, and a total of 68 named within the top 40, making up almost 10% of the world ratings (9.4%).
This month’s ‘Boxer of the Month’ is former Anthony Joshua rival, Andy Ruiz Jr., chosen for having won his eliminator fight with Cuban Luis Ortiz on September 4.
Richard Riakporhe is now positioned loftily at No.6 in the cruiserweight division having won his last fight against Fabio Turchi in June.
A trio of Brits occupy the top three spots in the 175lbs ratings – Callum Smith; Joshua Buatsi; Anthony Yarde. 10 of the top 40 light-heavyweights are from the UK and Ireland, making it our hottest division.
The featherweight top 40 is also occupied with UK and Irish fighters now that Dennis McCann has collected the International Silver belt in his last fight in July.
The same applies to the super-bantamweight section, where there’s seven fighters lining up just outside of the top 15.
