Adames will face Williams
WBC interim middleweight champion Carlos Adames (22-1, 17KO) will defend his title against Julian Williams (23-6-2, 23KO) in the main event of a card taking place June 24 at The Armory in Minneapolis.
Dominican Republic's No.1 middleweight Adames will make his first defense of an interim championship he won when he knocked out Mexican Juan Macías Montiel in the third round on October 8, 2022, at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
29-year-old Adames wants to stay active while he waits for his chance to face Jermall Charlo.
33-year-old Williams from Philadelphia will be fighting for the second time at middleweight when he challenges titleholder Adames.
The former 154-pound champion recently defeated Argentine Rolando Mansilla (18-12-1, 8 KOs) by eight-round unanimous decision in his last fight on November 5.
"J Rock" famously defeated unbeaten Jarrett Hurd in 2019 in a surprise upset to become unified WBA, IBF, IBO World middleweight champion, but lost the belts in his first defense to Jeison Rosario, and has only won once since.
Both his world title defeats – to aforementioned Rosario and to Jermall Charlo prior to that – came via fifth round TKO. Two of his three career losses were by knockout, s he will have to be extra careful against heavy-handed Adames, who has 17 KOs from 22 victories.
