WBC announces the opening of its representation office in Ukraine
The World Boxing Council is opening a representative office in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, one of the countries with the longest boxing tradition and a history so closely linked to the WBC.
The governing body released the following statement: "Ukraine is a Land of great world champions and legendary figures in our sport. It continues to be one of the inexhaustible hotbeds of talent, both at an Olympic and professional level.
"In recent history, the great names of Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Oleksandr Usyk, Vasyl Lomachenko and Victor Postol, without forgetting the younger generation of boxers who have been steadily climbing the WBC affiliate titles ladder. Currently, boxers from all over the world choose Ukraine for big cards. It is becoming a major boxing center in the Eastern European region.
"A relevant and saliant aspect to highlight, is the work that is currently being done in Ukraine to train, guide and prepare amateur boxers in their transition to professional boxing.
"The World Boxing Council is convinced that the opening of our office in Ukraine will promote the flourishing development of professional and amateur boxing in the region, this being the main objective.
"We have a lot of exciting challenges ahead, as we need to work with the boxers, but also with the coaches, judges, referees and other officials involved in organizing the bouts.
"Social responsibility activities will also play an important role in WBC Ukraine’s work plan, under the guidelines of the WBC Cares program.
"Another activity of paramount importance for this talented team, will be the opening of boxing schools and gyms for homeless children and children from needy families, who will be able to practice sports for free and, under such conditions, will be motivated to succeed in life. Developing children’s minds as champions is so very important.
"The WBC, is an innovative, pioneering organization that always works with the health and well-being of athletes in mind. For us it`s priority number one mindset.
"We will of course implement nutrition, hydration, weight management programs, Clean Boxing Program, and will promote support for retired boxers. through the José Sulaiman Fund.
"The WBC Ukraine team will be led by Mykola Kovalchuk, a prominent lawyer in the field of sports law, who has a recognized and distinguished public record of achievement.
