Historic WBC first in Sri Lanka
On the November 26 at the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the first ever professional boxing show in the country took place.
DJMC events promoter Mr. Dunstan Rozairo together with matchmaker Roshan Nathaniel organized the show on the beautiful island in the Indian ocean. The World Boxing Council became the first professional boxing body to present its professional championships there.
The event was sanctioned by the Indian Boxing Council. Thanks to the professionalism of its Leader – Brigadier Raja – the country where still no professional sanctioning body exists, everything went smoothly.
In the co-main event there was a defense of the WBC Asia Continental lightweight title by Indian Sachin Dekwal (11-1, 7KO), 27 from Faridabad, who couldn’t make it and lost in the seventh by KO. The new champion is 25-year-old Jules 'Victorious' Victoriano (11-5, 8KO) from Philippines.
The main event of the evening was an historic female professional boxing fight with two vacant titles at stake – WBC International and WBC Asia Silver super bantamweight. Heavy handed 27-year-old Delhi fighter Urvachi Singh (10-3, 6KO) defeated Thanchanok Phanan (12-4, 6KO), 21 from Thailand, in a 10 round fight by UD.
The World Boxing Council made this statement: "The latest edition of the famous green and gold WBC belt encapsulates the image of our great and forever remembered President Jose Sulaiman; The King of Boxing, Muhammad Ali; and Floyd Mayweather as an homage to their illustrious careers, plus the pictures of the two greatest WBC's champions per division, who were, of course, chosen by boxing fans."
