Canelo honoured by his hometown
Undisputed super-middleweight champion, Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez, was honored with a statue in his honor in his hometown, Juanacatlán, Jalisco, Mexico, an event he attended with his family and was very happy and pleased by this recognition.
The sculpture was placed on the boardwalk of the municipality of Jalisco, and was made by the plastic artist Sigifredo Islas, who took a couple of months to create the work consisting of two and a half meters high, made of bronze, with a base of quarry stone and silver.
“I feel very proud, it is an honour for me. Thanks to everyone who made it possible and to my family who is always supporting me. One day I was like you, here in Juanacatlán, with many dreams of being someone, of getting ahead, of taking my family forward, and if I did this, you can too, it’s just a matter of discipline”, commented the champion.
The mayor of Juanacatlán, Francisco de la Cerda Suárez, granted him the status of ‘distinguished son’, in addition to giving him a recognition called the ‘Municipality Foundation Cross’
Canelo Álvarez has a record of 58 victories, 39 of them by stoppage, with only two defeats and two draws.
