Welterweight prospect from Snodland, Kent, George Hennon, is heading straight into his next contest on July 1st at Grays Civic Hall in Essex after recently scoring a third win on his unblemished record at the York Hall on Friday 29th April.
The 21-year-old from Kent defeated Bulgarian journeyman – Danny Donchev (6-86-2) on points on the last weekend of April to secure his third win in the paid ranks.
Following the shortest of breaks, the 147-pounder is already back in training for his next fight date on the Carl Greaves Promotions event, just eight weeks away.
He said, “I’ve been doing a few light runs to keep the weight off and will be back in the gym next week to get ready for 1st July.”
Trained by Johnny Greaves out of the Peacock Gym in Canning Town, Hennon is looking for a challenge next, he explained, “I want a step up, definitely. Someone with a good ambition who wants to win and not just to be in survival mode. “Someone similar that’s unbeaten like me would be good or just someone to give me a challenge.”
A former English and European kick-boxing champion during his teenage years, Hennon has overcome all opponents – Ali Wyatt (4-28-2), Matt Seawright (5-115-5), and Danny Donchev (6-86-2) on points, respectively.
Upon reaching 3-0, the Kent puncher received an increase in attention from the media, fans, and sponsors. “It’s been a bit overwhelming really, it’s crazy!” he laughed. “So many people have been talking about it and asking when my next one is. I’d like to think I’ll get a big turnout again, I had over 100 there for my last fight at York Hall. Being on a Friday, I’m hoping a few can take the time off work to come along in support. “I’ll be getting new kit for this next fight thanks to my new sponsors that have come on board – Alternative Insight, SL Roofing and KGM Fire. There’s room for more sponsors and the more backing I get, the better. I have been given a big boost but I could always do with more to help fund the training camps, so I’m on the lookout for more still.”
Sharing the bill with ‘Georgey Boy Hennon’ on July 1st is fellow unbeaten fighters – Idris Hill (3-0), Tey Lynn-Jones (2-0), and Sammy Holloway (2-0). From Southend, ID Hill will fight for the Junior Lightweight British Challenge belt in the main event. Middleweight prospect Liam Desmond (5-1) will be back in action following his controversial points loss to Dan Blackwell (7-54) at the previous Grays Civic Hall show in March. Blackwell has now followed his brother Nicky into retirement, whilst 22-year-old Desmond from Corringham, Essex will be looking to bounce back from the unfortunate blip that was bizarrely scored by referee Lee Cook to the complete surprise of the audience. Super-welterweight Paul Southwick (0-2) will be hoping that it’s third time lucky as he aims for his first win in the pro ranks. Debutant Jack Healy makes his pro bow at welterweight over four three-minute rounds.
