Irish Emerald “King” Callum Walsh boxing in Boston
Prodigiously powerful and richly talented Callum Walsh (5-0, 4KO) will be testing his tempered mettle at the Agganis Arena, slap bang in the heart of Boston University Campas on March 16th, on the eve of Ireland's National Day, in a fight broadcast, live globally on the UFC Fight Pass streaming service.
Southpaw Callum, who's originally from Cork, won six National Titles and a European Gold Medal, before turning his hand to the pro ranks. The 22-year-old was slated to be fighting KO artist Leonardo Di Stefani Ruiz (10-1, 9KO), but unfortunately, Leonardo fractured a finger in sparring. So, Wesley Tucker (15-4, 9 KO) from Toledo, Ohio, who is also a southpaw, steps in to exactingly test him in this super-welterweight slugfest.
Bostonian Dana White, the President of the UFC is propelling the young Irishman with this opportunity, and Hall of Fame Coach Freddie Roach, whose roots are also based in Boston, is training Callum, for this Hollywood Fight Nights-Boston Extravaganza, which is being organized by Tom Loffler's 360 Promotions.
Tom, who has promoted the Klitschko Brothers and Triple G, said: “I wouldn`t categorize Callum as a prospect anymore. He's definitely on his way and this is a great chance for Callum during the St Patrick's Celebration week. I've started working with Callum early in his career as he's still only twenty-two 22, and we see a huge future for him. Freddie says Callum is one of the most brilliant and talented fighters he's ever seen.
“It´s Callum's first 10-round fight, so there's a fine line between pushing and progressing him in fights, in which he's going to learn at the same time. If he progresses the way he should, he will win a regional title and then the World Title in the next two to three years. Green is the Irish color, so Callum is very keen to win the Green and Gold Belt.”
As well as Callum's Irish American fanbase, yet more Irish supporters are flying over from the Emerald Ireland to cheer him on. Tom said: “This is a terrific opportunity, Callum has trained really hard, and I predict that we're going to see another explosive performance!”
